turn off find my iphone

I'm trying to reset my sons phone to factory settings through iTunes and its telling me to "turn off find my iPhone" but the phone itself will not let me do it.

iPhone 7, iOS 11.3.1

What message do you get when you say the phone will not let you do it? You need to know your son’s password in order to turn off Find My iPhone. You can also do it on a computer logged into your son’s iCloud account but, again, you need both his Apple ID and Password.
