Final Cut 5.1.2 Extremely Slow

Hi, I just got my crossgrade discs and installed in my machine, then I did the updater. Now when I have used FCP it has been extremely slow. When I try and play video in the timeline it says I am dropping frames, If I try and toggle through the timeline it is extremely slow and I get my spinning beach ball. Any suggestions why I am getting this. Should I re install fresh. When I upgraded I still have V. 5.0 on my system. Any help much appreciated

Mac Pro Dual 2.66, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

How could it be slower than running 5.0 under Rosetta?

Why don't you try erasing the hard drive and reinstalling everything from scratch. You'll remove all the Rosetta elements of the program and have fresh start. It will never run better.

You might try the following: Repair permissions, run diskwarrior on startup drive and media drives.

Where is your media? Is there at least 10% free disk space on all drives? Your startup drive should probably have more free space than that.

What format is the video you are playing?

Did a re install and it took care of the problem. Thanks for the input
