White Screen for a second on MacBook Pro?

My 13 inch MacBook Pro (2017) (no touch bar) has been recently for the past month. Whenever I turned on my Macbook Pro after a long hibernation (maybe between 24-48 hours) it would show a white static screen for about a second then it would go back to regular. I haven’t experienced anything different with my Macbook Pro except the white screen is very annoying. I do not know if this is my fault like if I had installed something that I was not supposed to or what, but I am scared and I don’t know what to do.

Hello saketh,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are encountering a white screen when waking your MacBook Pro from sleep. Having your MacBook Pro work as expected is important. I would be happy to help point you in the right direction from here.

To help isolate possible settings causes, let's start by resetting your NVRAM (nonvolatile random-access memory), following the steps here:

How to reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

If the issue still occurs, reset your SMC:

How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

Starting the MacBook in safe mode can also help resolve potential issues caused by login items. The following resource will walk you through how to start up in safe mode:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

Keep us posted if the behavior still occurs after trying those steps.

Cheers!

There have been MANY changes in display software leading up to the most recent version of macOS.

This particular issue has been reported here, and is most likely caused by a programming error, where the screen is enabled before any data is available to be displayed.

In a very UN-characteristic (for me) recommendation, I suggest you just ignore this problem. It is unlikely to be cause by any hardware issues. I expect it will clear up with a software fix in short order.

Hi

I got the MacBook Pro 2017 with touch bar and have experinced the same issue you are describing, with the static display after the lid has been closed for longer time. Only difference is that I also get an HDCP error in iTunes when trying to watch movies bought through iTunes - but after seeing the static display the HDCP error goes away and I can watch movies again - though if I restart my Mac I get the HDCP error again. I have tried to reset SMC, NVRAM and safe boot. Even tried to erase and reinstall MacOS. I have now put my Mac in for repair - wish I had seen your post before I had put it in for service.

Hope to see a solution soon
