"include" folder in iCloud trash cannot be deleted.

I have an empty folder titled "include" in my Trash can and every time I delete it, it just reappears a few seconds later. The actual folder is in ~/iCloud/.Trash/. I have tried emptying the trash and I have tried going to the folder and running "rm -rf include".

What is this folder and how do I delete it permanently?

I never said I didn't understand the Terminal commands.

Thanks for reminding me about iCloud's recovery feature. Deleting the folder via the iCloud website, and then deleting it from the recovery section seems to have permanently deleted the folder.

If anyone else has this problem and somehow manages to navigate this thread, that was the solution.

How rude!

I am not a child who needs to be told to "leave the terminal stuff alone". It's certainly possible I messed something up by accident, but I can assure you an "include" folder is not normally found in a Trash folder (for example, there is no "include" folder at ~/.Trash/ or on the trash folders on my external hard drives.

If you don't have any useful information to add, please don't say anything!

And now I accidentally marked your post as "solved", and seem unable to do that, so I will have to make a new post.

If anyone finds this post and wants to help, here is a link to the new post. Please don't comment there if you are just going to tell me to "leave the terminal stuff alone".

And yet here you are asking for help.

You shouldn't post twice on a subject either. You did not name this folder in your other post.

Is it possible it's a folder tied to an application of some sort you have installed? Since it's configuration relies on it, it keeps regenerating itself it self by some application process.

Log-in item?

Launch daemon?

Telling me not to use my computer is not an answer, it’s a rude comment. Just because I am comfortable with the command line doesn’t mean I never run into an issue that I have difficulty troubleshooting. I was hoping there might be people in these forums who have experienced quirks with iCloud before who might be able to shed light on the issue.

I have done more experimentation since yesterday and decided to put it in a new thread since I accidentally marked the other thread as “solved” and there doesn’t seem to be a way to undo that.

When I moved or renamed the file, it stayed put as long as it remained in the iCloud folder. This suggests that it is not a folder being used by a program.

The only time it didn’t come back was when I turned off my internet access, which is why I think iCloud Drive is restoring the file. For some reason it doesn’t register that I am trying to delete the file, and always redownloads it.

The other guy told me I was “tinkering with stuff you don’t understand” and said “may I suggest you leave the terminal stuff alone. That was condescending and was telling me not to use a part of my computer.

I used to frequently answer things on Stack Overflow, so I know what it’s like to be a volunteer like that. However, Stack Overflow has some basic standards for providing actual answers to questions. If this were Stack Overflow, all of these comments would be removed for being off topic (mine included). That enforces a level of decency and professionalism that apparently isn’t found here.

Neither of which is "not to use my computer"

1st response > Telling me not to use my computer is not an answer,

now > telling me not to use a part of my computer.

So now you are changing your response to better suit your purpose.

I disagree.

I've offered you several suggestions and your only response is to be hurt.

Yes I word things differently to respond to different questions.

A guy was rude and condescending to me. Why are you so adamant about defending him?

Your posts are more focused on defending that guy than answering the question, yet you accuse me of “your only response is to be hurt” after you “offered several suggestions”. You may notice that I did respond with on-topic discussion to your original comment that did include a little bit of on-topic discussion.

Perhaps it was a little abrupt, however, if you are using the terminal and don't understand the results, I'm not so sure I would advise continued use. I suspect, but don't know, that this is something to do with the ability to recover deleted files in iCloud, as such I suggested you leave it alone in the absence of better advice, however if you feel so minded, by all means go ahead and do what you feel is right.
