IPad neck victim seeks user-friendly couch "stand".

I can't be the only one who does most iPad use while sitting on a sofa. I need to move it higher than my lap, so I had been using a throw pillow under the iPad, which raises it up 4 inches off my lap, but my head is still tilted down to look at it. Earlier this week I got a sudden (kick in the neck sudden) attack of iPad neck. I've made a partial recovery, which I hope will continue. But I can't resume using my iPad the same way. After searching and reading, I learn that tablets should be used at eye level. I tried stacking two pillows, but it's too unsteady. So I'm looking for something that is:

  1. comfortable
  2. lightweight
  3. steady on a lap
  4. can support and steady the tablet (I assume a hand must be kept on the iPad at all times)
  5. keeps the tablet at eye level

I've been using an 18" Minion, and putting the bottom iPad corners in the Minion's goggle strap. I need to keep a hand on it, and the Minion shoes aren't really comfortable in my lap, but it brings the iPad to the level of my head, which is the most important thing. Hasn't anyone come up with an Ipad lap stand, or does anyone know of an existing product (preferably cheap) which can be used as an iPad lap stand?

Here's a photo of my current "stand" (no tasteless jokes please, I looked all around my house and this was the only thing which seemed to somewhat work).

There are tripods and holders that are made of flexible material. Just trying to give some other ideas so you can expand your searches.

For example...in the suggested items for the tripod holder, I saw this.

Amazon.com: GEEPIN Clamp Mount Tablet Stand for iPad and iPhone, 3.3 Ft Tall Adjustable Arm 360° Rotating Aluminum Goose…

Again, maybe not exactly what you need, but hopefully gives you an idea/gets you closer to finding a solution.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I still haven't found anything yet.

The spider-leg stands aren't long enough to raise the iPad to my face. The floor stands I've looked at require the iPad to be attached to a bracket, but throughout a day I will sometimes use it away from the sofa, so I want something where I can just pick up the tablet and go, without having to fasten and unfasten the iPad several times a day.

Well sorry then, I’m all out of ideas. I routinely use my iPads and my MacBook Pro in my lazy boy recliner, my desk chair and so forth and have no neck issues. And I have both scoliosis and kyphosis and have since birth. It’s all about finding a comfortable orientation for you, so a very personal thing IMO. I even use mine for reading or listening to audiobooks, comfortably, inverted in a Teeter Hangups table, for up to 25-30 minutes at a time.

Use whatever pillows, tables, holders, supports you can find. And you‘ll likely have to experiment a lot to find what works for you.

I can't see how that tripod would be practical from a couch. My iPad is just a mini. In order to read the screen I need be close to it. If the tripod is set in front of the sofa I would then have to sit forward onto the edge of the cushion, or else place the tripod at the side of the sofa, requiring me to constantly turn my head. But thanks for the suggestion.
