Why doesn't my Apple Pay work at gas stations that accept Apple Pay?

My Apple Pay works at every gas station that accepts it except for Circle K. Now, Circle K is listed on the Apple Pay website as one of the companies that accept it. The store advertises Apple Pay, yet it still declines both credit and debit transactions from my phone. Any explanation? Thanks!
