Hi, today my WhatsApp updated and after the update, i am not able to see the name of the senders neither on the lock screen nor on the banners. Once i will turn on the preview of message then i am able to see the sender name. What is the solution to get the previous setting back as this is against the privacy.

You need to adjust settings both on Whatsapp and iPhone depending on what you'd like to be displayed in new message notifications.
To turn on previews that display the contact name and but not the message:
1. Go to WhatsApp> Settings> Notifications> turn SHOW PREVIEW ON.
2. Go to iPhone settings> Notifications> Whatsapp> Show preview> NEVER.
To turn on previews that display both the contact name and the message:
1. Go to WhatsApp> Settings> Notifications> turn SHOW PREVIEW ON.
2. Go to iPhone settings> Notifications> Whatsapp> Show preview> ALWAYS(DEFAULT) or When Unlocked.
It's too absurd but here is the solution
Go to WhatsApp > Settings > Notifications > turn Show Preview on.
Go to iPhone Settings > Notifications > WhatsApp > Show Previews > Never

ive followed the above mentioned steps they were helpful but now im facing another problem, previously my settings were just to display the name of sender but after turning preview on it displays the message as well. I just want the name of sender.
Exact same issue since the update. Extremely annoying. Anyone have any solution to fix this?

The same happened to me, and I followed the steps here and it worked.
But to me another curious thing happened: a block list number was able to wpp me!
