How can I make Pages come up each time as a Blank, but without Header and Footer ?

Open a new blank template. Visit the Document panel and deselect header/footer. You may want to alter your margin settings too at this point, and even set the default font attributes in the document body. Save the Pages document, and then, File menu : Save as Template.

In Pages Preferences : General panel, For New Documents: √ Use template: (click Change Template… and select the custom template that you just saved). Quit Pages. When you launch Pages, it will open with your custom template.

Hi casa'

My added instructions in (italics):

User uploaded file

  • (Click Choose)
  • "Quit Pages.
  • "When you launch Pages, it will open with your custom template."

Saving your custom template to the Desktop was a mistake, because the Pages Preferences : General panel's Change Template… only provides the Template Chooser view, and no ability to look elsewhere.

Open your template in Pages as a document, and then File menu : Save as Template… and click Add to Template Chooser. Your custom template(s) will be found in the My Templates section of the Template Chooser. Pick that from the first paragraph.

HI casa'

Open a document using the most recent 'untitled' template.

Save the document with the name you want to use for the template (I would suggest "No Header" or "Blank-No Header" as a more descriptive name than "New Blank").

With the document now named, Save as Template.

Make a test document with the new template, then, if it meets your expectations, delete the Untitled templates.

To delete a custom template:

Open the Template chooser (File > New from Template Chooser)

(Depending on your default steeing for new documents, you may need to press and hold the option key to see and select this menu item.)

In the template Chooser, scroll to the bottom and the Custom Templates section.

Control-click on the icon for the template you want to delete, then click Delete in the menu that appears.

Repeat for next template.

Regards,

Barry

Progress, but regret not yet solved.

This time I saved as template, and of course I had no trouble making my choice come up again immediately .... but I still don't know how to make this choice my default, to come it up first every time I click 'New'.

In other words, I can't follow your last line - when starting out, where will I find "My Templates section of the Template Chooser. Pick that from the first paragraph" ?

Barry (and VikingOSX),

Yes I'm nearly there !

Now my Pages Preferences for "For New Documents" are set to "Show Template Chooser", my choice (or more accurately choices) come up every new time.

But along the way I made half a dozen newbies - and each time attempted to change each name to "New Blank", but the changes never happened, and now I have six "Untitleds" in My Templates.

How can I delete all but one, and give this a meaningful name ?
