Multiple problems, need help!

Okay, I have a bit of a strange situation...I'm not sure what exactly I need help with here. I'm hoping this is the right section for this, and if it is not then I apologize.

Something was wrong with my computer recently (I think it was a corrupt hard drive, but I'm not sure), and my uncle fixed it for us. He saved all the pictures/games/etc. from our computer and wiped the hard drive. He then put most of what was on here before back, but I still needed to re-install iTunes.

So that's what I did yesterday, and all went well at first. Then all the music that I had on iTunes before started "converting" into my library...and I figured this was a good thing! But then all these little computer sounds popped up in my library as well (such as "got mail" and "buddy log out"--they're all little beeps of sorts and are only a few seconds long).

Ignoring this, I bought a few songs from the iTunes music store and attempted to update my iPod (mini). When I did this, all the little computer noises tried to add themselves on as well--but there was over a thousand of them! The update didn't work (thankfully, or so I then thought).

I tried to delete all the computer sounds (by highlighting them then hitting "delete" on my keyboard), and attempted the update again--but it still tried to add the sounds that I thought I had deleted.

This is where I stand at the moment: Only 12 of my 200-and-something songs are on my iPod (which absolutely stuns me--they were all on there before I connected it to the computer, I just couldn't add the three NEW songs). The last time I connected my iPod to the computer and tried updating, it still tried adding the computer noises and ended up freezing up (I waited for my iPod to go to the menu page and safely disconnected it, then closed down iTunes).

I miss my music terribly, but I don't know what to do. V_V Any advice or information would be GREATLY appreciated!
