Why don't I qualify for High Sierra?
I saw a YouTube video that suggested my MacBook Pro 5,5 (2009) was capable of running High Sierra, but every time I try to download it, Apple says no.

Don't believe what you see in YouTube.
You need a MacBook Pro (Mid 2010 or newer) model

Then you cannot do it officially. You have to use a hack. Which can brick your Mac.
