backup failure not enough storage and there is plenty

Backup failed yet I am only backing up 1/2GB and have 5 available

iPhone 8, iOS 11.3.1

go to manage your storage and see what you have - you probably are wrong about how much free storage you have -- Manage your iCloud storage - Apple Support
