I have a older 5th gen iPod Nan, which includes both the software to run FM reciver and the hardware. My question is why Apple dropped FM support for all future ipods and phones, this model might even be the *only* Apple device with a fm recive.
No one knows why Apple makes any of their decisions, so anyone offering information here about their decision would be guessing and more than likely have their post removed by Apple, who frown upon such posts.
Since you're concerned about FM radio, which is local, you could use a self-contained FM radio instead.
