iPhone charges and then stops charging. Help

My IPhone 6 Plus charges and then says the accessory is not supported. The Lightning Cable is the original cable for the iPhone. So the phone only charges for 1 or 2 percent and then stops charging. What are my options?

An iPhone 6 Plus... it may be time for a new battery.

You can make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar if that's convenient for you.

A battery replacement? I was thinking it might be either software or my charging port would need to be replaced.
