Subscription

I am paying £9:99 subscription - Can anybody tell me what i'm getting for this ? - as I still have to pay for downloads..

You still have the option to purchase and download music which you can keep forever -- the same as if you were not subscribing to Apple Music. A streaming service (there are a number of other streaming services in addition to Apple Music) allows you to listen to music while you are a subscriber. Once you are no longer subscribed you cannot listen to that music.
