Ipad air 2 dying

My ipad air 2, that i had since 2016, keeps dying. it says it is charging and all of a sudden the screen goes black. when i try turning it on it shows the dead battery thing, and if it DOES load up it says it's at 1% and then dies. can i get any help or information on why it's doing this, without having to get a new ipad? it also does the thign where it goes to the white apple screen, then it goes grey, then it goes to a dark grey screen with a loading circle and dies. please help!
