Mail.app keeps opening - High Sierra

As it says

Upgraded to High Sierra 10.13.4 from Sierra

When first started the mail.app proceeded to convert existing mail (which removed all mail) and has continued to reopen as soon as it is quit.

Have changed default mail program but no diff.

macOS High Sierra (10.13.4)

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! I understand that you would like to prevent the Mail app from automatically opening on your Mac. I would be happy to help point you in the right direction from here.

Let's start by checking for the Mail app in your Login items:

macOS Sierra: Open items automatically when you log in

If the Mail app appears in the Login items list, go ahead and remove it then test if the Mail app continues to reopen. If so, the next step would be to see if the behavior persists while the Mac is started in safe mode:

Sorry to take so long to get back to you

Had already checked:

start up

launchd / launchctl for user / root

It turned out to be a GeekTool bash script calling an osascript. Apple has changed the api's again
