Battery Drained Despite Being Plugged into Wall Charger

Good morning everyone,

I just woke up, only to find my iPhone 6 Plus being below 20% battery charge despite the fact that it was plugged into a wall charger outlet all night. I think this may be due to a battery virus, but I'm not entirely sure. Can anyone explain to me this issue as soon as possible because my iPhone 6 is my only phone for both work and emergencies.

Thank you!

It's difficult to dignose your issue remotely

It could be a problem related to:

  • Dirty charging port on your iPhone (gently clean it from lint/debris using a toothpick and... a lot of patience)
  • Problems to your charger and/or cable (try to use a different charger/cable/wall socket)
  • Battery status (Settings>Battery>Battery Life (beta), then tap on it and read the maximum capacity percentage). if the percentage is less than 85%, your battery is reaching its life's critical point.

If you get no help, have your device checked at your most convenient Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider: Apple - Find Locations - Location Selector

One thing you can be absolutely certain about; there is no such thing as a "battery virus."

First, is it an Apple wall charger and an Apple cable?

When you connect the phone to the wall charger does it show the charging lightning bolt on the screen? If not, try a different wall charger and a different Lightning cable. If it does show the lightning bolt, turn off any light switches nearby. Many wall outlets are connected to light switches and get turned off with the lights. Sometimes only one of the two outlets in a duplex receptacle is controlled by the light switch, so check for that.

If you connect it while you are watching and it shows the lightning bolt, but the state of charge does not increase, your phone has a hardware problem. Make a genius bar appointment: Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple
