iphone 7+ compatibility

i have an iphone 7+. carrier is att. i wish to switch to verizon. i'm told by verizon my iphone is not compatible with verizon. is this true?

Very likely. See the following from iPhone 7 - Technical Specifications - Apple

Models A1778 and A1784 do not support CDMA networks, such as those used by Verizon and Sprint.

Verizon uses CDMA and ATT uses GSM. It is likely true that your iPhone which is GSM doesn't have the ability to use the Verizon CDMA network.
