iMessage doesn't seem private

I thought iMessage was private and encrypted! 30 minutes ago someone sent me a message on iMessage about Goose Island IPA. 10 minutes ago I saw an ad for it in my Facebook app. I had never heard of it before and the person who sent it hadn’t either and he didn’t look it up. This is scary and extremely disturbing considering what a big deal Apple has made about iMessage being secure. Any info anyone can provide on what might be happening would be appreciated.

iMessage is Secure and is end to end encrypted. Facebook however knows your phone number, and your email(s) and is widely known to share that information off your Facebook page and the connections you make from it.

If an advertiser (or anyone for that matter) gets your contact information, from FaceBook or any other social media site or app you use, they can send you messages. That has nothing to do with iMessage itself nor Apple’s iMessage security. There is nothing about Apple‘s iMessage service that stops anyone with your contact information from messaging you if they also have an iMessage account.

I would suggest you meticulously go through FaceBook’s privacy policies and your privacy settings on your FaceBook account if FaceBook is sharing your contact information with their advertisers and commercial subscribers.
