MacBook Pro running slow, frequent crashes: see Etre report

My MacBook Pro Late 2011 is running really slow. Processor speed is 2.2GHz, 4GB memory, 500GB disk

Just updated to latest High Sierra 10.13.4. Have run disk first aid, rebooted in safe mode etc. There's 160GB available space on the HD. I've emptied trash, cleaned up wherever possible. I work from a desktop usually and the MacBook for away from desk work. For that I plug in an external hard drive with all my word files on it, so there's really only photos and music on this hard drive (so 340ish GB used).

Apps rarely launch on 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th try. Usually I launch, then force quit numerous times until it opens. Have tried to launch from dock, applications and documents but same happens. Apps regularly crash and have to be forced quit then agonising to go through reopen process again. Browser search is slow - search terms don't preload and pages slow to load (safari and chrome). Docs, emails etc all slow to open and load. Spinning wheel of death appears numerous times a day. Latest step was to run an Etre report as suggested in forums. H E L P ..... 🙂 please 🙂
