USB 3.0 vs. 2.0

I have a 6 year old Macbook pro. It has a USB 2.0 port. I just purchased a thumb drive that says it requires a USB 3.0 port.

Will the thumb drive work, or do I have to return it and find one that requires a 2.0 port ?

Late 2012 Mac mini USB ports It is unclear to me which type of USB ports are on my Late 2012 Mac mini. Apple specs state USB 3.0. My Mac mini System Reports indicates "both" USB 2.0 and USB 3.0. Are 2022 MacBook ports USB 3.1 Gen 2.2 ? Can the new 2021 MacBook Pro handle SSD drives that utilise USB3.1 Gen 2.2 to their full potential through the latest USB4 ports? I have the Sandisk Extreme Pro which can read at 2000mb/s but until recently, the USB4 ports could only handle 1000mb/s due to only being Gen 2.1? Thanks

Any USB product should be backwards compatible.

It should work, but it will just be slower than it would be if it were plugged into a 3.0 socket.
