Sampling in Logic ProX

I have an old synth that I some times use but its a pain setting it up as an external midi instrument.

Is it possible to sample and store in logic, the sound patches that I want from the external synth using the EX sampler or other device?

Then I can play the synth patches internally and do away with the old synth completely?

Any help is appreciated.. 🙂
