"Messenger" is Facebook's messaging protocol & App/website - takes place within the Facebook framework of Apps & services

"iMessage" is Apple's proprietary messaging service - works only between Apple devices

"Messages" is Apple's App for messagING - it sends and receives iMessages AND phone carrier SMS/MMS messages
