Portrait mode not showing up on Mac

When I take pictures in portrait mode on my phone (and 8 +) they look great - when I look at them in iPhoto on my Mac they are NOT in portrait mode. Why is that?? And how can I get the ones in iPhoto to be the same portrait mode as on my phone??

If I take a portrait photo with the 13 and view it in macOS Photos it tells me it is a portrait photo and the background is blurred. But I can't edit it to change lighting effect or depth of field like I could with my 11. When you click edit the portrait edit options are missing. New and old portrait photos taken with my iPhone 11 can still be edited just fine in macos Photos I can fully edit the portrait photoss from the 13 using my iPhone 11, iPhone 13, and iPad. It's only mac that can't edit them, and only the ones from the 13. I'm running macOS Big Sur 11.6 on an intel macbook pro.

Photos Portrait Mode Adjustment Is Unavailable When I open and edit a pic shot in portrait mode (with the "Portrait" label in the top left), I don't get the Portrait selection menu under adjustments. Nor do I get the portrait adjustment toolbar at the bottom of the window. Is this because I'm using an older (2014) iMac? I do get the Portrait mode f-stop and lighting options on the iPhone. Iphone 13 pro MacOs 11.6 iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)

No Portrait Mode when editing in Photos I'm editing a photo taken in portrait mode on my iPhone 13 Mini and I'm following the instructions on this Apple page: https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/photos/phta3a9f5c61/6.0/mac/11.0 I've set the drop-down at the top of the page to macOS Big Sur and it says: Select a lighting effect. If the lighting effects appear dimmed, click Portrait under the photo to turn them on. In Photos 6.0 on my MacBook Pro running macOS 11.6.1 the photo shows "PORTRAIT" in the top left corner, but in edit mode, with "Adjust" selected, the photo has only the same editing options as a non-portrait photo. There is nowhere to choose a lighting effect and "Portrait" does not appear under the photo. What am I missing?

iPhoto is too old. It has. not been updated in more than three years and does not support portrait mode.

You need to use Photos for Mac to be able to see photos in Portrait mode.

upgrade to Yosemite or newer - High Sierra is best if your hardware supports it - Photos is part of all newer OSs
