Do you experience low call volume on Iphone 8?

Hello, I just bought my first Iphone a few days ago - an Iphone8. I am loving this phone so far but realised that the call volume is very low when someone calls me. So low I can hardly hear what the person is saying. The caller seems to hear me fine. I have looked for a setting to increase call volume but the only time it is possible is when a call is active. At the moment the volume is set to maximum and I'm still barely hearing the person on the other end. I do have the background noise cancellation button turned on as well. Has anyone had a similar problem? Is there a fix or do I have to return the phone?
