Imac cd player

My Imac dates 2010. Unable to import new cd's. Tried also with macbook friend: the same. I' ve tried to buy external cd player but Amac stores says its not compatible. So here I am with a radioprogram and cannot import cd's any more(necessary to put into logic for the radio)So actually everything works but because of this I 've to buy a new one? that's ridiculous
