There was a problem connecting the server XXX

For some applications, I can no longer work as I get the message "There was a problem connecting the server XXX" when trying to look for data stored on my local computer. The server XXX mentioned is not even a server, but a WiFi network, so definitively off route.

I've read a lot of quick fix which do not work.

I have macOS 10.13.4 High Sierra.

This started ca. week ago, after an update of macOS Sierra.

Any clue how I can get rid of this annoying message laming my applications?
