mime browser plugin for safari

hi i tried to listen to streaming audio from the website of one of my local fm radio stations where i live and this is the message i'm getting. The page “::.. C95 - Listen Live ..::” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page: then it gives the url: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/MediaPlayer/
i tried to find the plugin on the website but i couldn't find it, and tried downloading windows media player 9 for OS X and it won't install. the thing its that the install file has the extention .stix. how can i find the plugin?

thanks in advance
Cale

Hi Cale,

The only way you'll be able to play Windows Media content in native mode on your Intel machine is using the free plug-in Flip4Mac plug-in. This converts the Windows media files to a QuickTime format.

Beyond that, playing videos on Safari can be challenging in some instances. A good browser alternative. when Safari does not handle site content, is either Firefox 2.0 or Camino.

Also, some web sites code their media specific to the Windows platform. In these instances, no Mac browser will help you.

If no joy after installing the Flip4Mac plug-in, post the URL and I'll try the station from my machine.

One other note about "flip4mac". The preference file for the Plug-in resides in System Preferences. After installing the plug-in, "repair permissions" using Disk Utility in your Utilities folder. Once done, go to System Preferences>Flip4Mac and make sure the 1st and 3rd boxes are selected in the Plug-in panel, and the 1st box in the Movie panel.
