i noticed that the US holiday calendar subscription includes a ton of religious holidays that I do not observe causing clutter. how can I display only US federal and Christian holidays? This is on a IPhone SE running IOS 11.4

You'll need to find a subscription calendar that suits your needs. Or you can download a calendar from the App Store to use, which you can modify. You cannot modify subscription calendars.
