As ipod is obsolete

Hi i'm having problems with my 2nd gen 8gb ipod touch. I've got 729 songs in my library which were all on my ipod but for some reason after i synch a couple of days ago (how i've always done it) as i put a new album onto it i've lost a lot of songs with now only having 170 songs.

When i go onto my itunes on the computer this now comes up

Before this happened the Audio bar was the longest and OTHER had very little.

I've got no photos, app, videos or anything else apart from music.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Please help.

Thanks

Chris.

As ipod is obsolete

Doesn't matter (in this situation).

It looks as though the missing songs have become corrupted and your iPod can no longer read them. Corrupted files become "other".

From the screen you are on (iPod connected, Summary panel),

  1. switch to the Music panel and
  2. un-tick the Sync Music button
  3. Sync iPod to ensure that change is put in place. This should remove all the "Other" (hopefully)
  4. Once Sync has completed, turn the Sync Music button back on and Sync again, to add back all the music

If that doesn't work, use the Restore iPod option (the button is on the right in your screenshot). Be aware that a Restore will remove all the content from your iPod and put back only what it finds in your iTunes Library. However, since you only use your iPod for music (and not for apps), and all your music is in your iTunes Library, that is fine. Note though, that if you have any data in any of the built-in apps (such as notes in the Notes app), that data will be lost.

The 2nd gen iPod Touch is still great for music. Look after it well, you have a great iPod there...

Brilliant, thanks for the reply. Apple said they couldn't do anything as my ipod is old and obsolete. I also found out that when i signed out of my user on my pc and signed into my daughters user and went on her itunes her podcasts showed up in my other even though I had no podcasts in my itunes library, so once I deleted those my other went down. Strange considering I didn't click family share.

So now my Other box has gone back to normal but, when i sync my ipod the Audio box shows all my songs until I click Apply then it goes back again.
