Macbook 2017 cannot detect CD device

I have a Macbook 2017 and tried connecting an LG Portable Super Multi Drive model GP08NU20 to MB using a J5create usb hub with Type C power connected. The MB just wont recognise the device. Not in Finder nor in Disk Utility. The drive is working as I have tried it on both my MBA and MBP. Is there just a compatibility issue with the hub, MB and LG device. Darn MB without the adapters:(

cd driver not working with new MacBook - USB Hub Hello, I have a CD Driver with USB A connector. The new Macbooks do not have USB A ports but I have a USB Hub which does. So I connect the USB Hub to my macbook and the cd driver to my HUB. I get a message on my mac: USB accessories require power Connect "Apple USB..." to a USB port on this Mac So the cd driver is recognized but the mac (or the Hub) doesn't provide any power to the driver. So it does not work. Is there anything I am missing? Note: the driver works fine when connecting it to my old mac which has a USB A port.

MacBook Air 2015 will not recognize LG Slim Portable DVD Writer I have an LG Slim Portable DVD Writer that my MacBook can't find for some reason. I remember it working fine previously; the first time I plugged it in today, it read the disc & popped up on the desktop but stopped working when I ejected the disk for another. Now it can't see any disc I use. I have cd's visible in finder settings & usually devices will show up on my desktop as well. Does anyone have any suggestions?
