Sort in Photos App

I used numbers e.g: 1b, 1f, 1.1b, 1.1f, 2b, 2f, 3b, 3f etc as a title for my photos, I moved them to an album to sort and they won't sort in order. Why? How can I achieve this numbering system Please

Mac mini, macOS High Sierra (10.13.2), Photos

If you sort photos by the title, the titles will be sorted alphabetically. So "1.12" will be sorted before "1.2". You cannot change how Photos is sorting strings of text. If you want numbers to be sorted correctly, use leading zeroes, not blanks. For example, number the photos 00001, 00002, etc. Then Photos cn sort by title correctly according to your numbers.

Thank you for your reply to my question Leonie. I do not understand how using 00001, 0002 helps with my problem. What I need is a catalog system that works in a text file mode just like the finder uses. Regardless of when you add a titled file numbered as 1.1b, 1.1f, Ib, 1f, 2b, 2f, thru, 10b,10f. it always stays in the same order. In, as you say, a text file list as in Photos the numbers will come out as 1.1b, 1.1f, 10b, 10f, 1b, 1f, 2b, 2f. Keeping the ones and say twos etc together with the tens in numerical order is necessary for me.

With thousands of pics added at different times, including repeat of original numbers with something like .1 added into the Photos app I was unable to see any difference adding 0000 in front of the existing numbers. Are you saying I just have to have a separate distinct number for each pic. That will not work for me.

If I use another place to store pics I first have to add them to Photos, edit them, title them export them, open in another DB like File Maker create a Image field, Text title field and a Numerical field to sort on. Any idea how finder manages to alway keep the order in what looks like a text field?

Fantastic Leonie. Thank you so much for providing me with the correct answer. It works just fine. I must have spent on and off over a month, maybe more trying all different ways to achieve this. I would have checked CORRECT ANSWER on my iPhone but was concerned that it would not allow me to thank you. I am learning slowly at 86. Thanks again this will allow me to store hundreds of pics and still add them later in a reusable order.
