Charging iPhone Triggers Checking Mail

iPhone 7 128GB

iOS: 11.4

Background Refresh: Off

Fetch New Data: Off

-Push: Off

-All Mailboxes: Manual

-Fetch: Manually

Above are my settings for the iPhone. Often when I plug in my phone to charge (wall or computer) it will fetch new mail and "ding" even though I have everything set to manually be pulling mail. This occurs with all the mailboxes I have. It's occurred with each iOS iteration before 11.4 and is still occurring with 11.4.

I have never seen anyone with the same issue. Anyone have any ideas? Am I taking crazy pills?

Thanks,

Francisco

I definitely think it's the crazy pills!

😁😁😁

Does sound really weird though. I just checked mine just out of curiosity, I usually leave mine on the default settings. I noticed that if you go to ...

Settings > Accounts & Passwords > Fetch New Data

At the very bottom under "Fetch" you'll see something that says "Your iPhone will fetch new data in the background only when on power and Wi-Fi."

However, if I change that to "manual" that little explanation snippet goes away...

The only other thing I can think of is if you're using multiple email accounts in the Mail app that maybe one of them somewhere still has it set to Automatic instead of manual.

I've noticed there is about 10 different ways to Sunday within that section of the settings, so maybe it's just buried somewhere in the app, you just gotta dig it out.

Only other thing I could recommend is maybe deleting the account all together, and adding it back, and just reconfiguring the settings again from scratch just to make sure they're all set to exactly how you want them.

Not really much of a solution, but hopefully it can get you somewhere.

Good luck!
