How to block bogus Amazon pop-up (iPad Air 2)

My wife occasionally gets this annoying pop-up ad in Safari—

User uploaded file

This nuisance appears when she searches with Google, but not always. She has her pop-up blocker engaged, but that doesn't seem to matter. She also uses an iPhone 5c, but she has never seen this pop-up on the phone.

Yes, I have seen the many similar posts. I've also noticed that no one seems to know what to do about it. One poster recommended using a third-party cleaner (I think it was MalwareBytes for Mac), but I'm skeptical of anything that comes from outside Apple. (I'm a fan of Linc Davis. I don't use Clean My Mac or any anti-virus software on my devices.)

I hope someone here (perhaps Linc Davis?) can provide some insight. Thanks, everyone!

to get rid of the popup try this

force quit safariby double tapping the home button, then flicking the preview for safari off the screen

If you are syncing your safari history with icloud, go into the settings and turn that off

then go into the settings and safari and throw away the history

Force your ipad to reboot by holding down the sleep and home buttons until you see the silver apple. When you see that, let go and let it reboot.

Try your ipad again and see if hte popup is gone.
