can't see mounted disk image in sidebar or desktop

After mounting a (password-protected) disk image, I accidentally removed it from the Finder sidebar, so I ejected the disk image by right-clicking its icon on the Desktop. Since then, I haven't been able to see the disk image anywhere, and the Spotlight tool doesn't turn up any of the files in it even when I think the disk image has been successfully mounted (no error message after typing in password, and the Finder's Last Opened timestamp corresponds to when I've tried to open the .dmg file).

What do I need to do to get my mounted files to show up someplace where I can access them (i.e., sidebar, desktop)?

Thanks for your help!

Ejecting the "image" is similar to un-mounting a HD it is still there, however, inaccessible at this point.

Double click on the original .dmg file> enter password etc.
or
Go to: Applications>Utilities>Disk Utilities> Select the Disk Image from the list below the HD's> Select Open> enter password etc.

It should now appear on your Desk Top if does not show in the sidebar as well drag the mounted DI icon into the Sidebar where HD's are.

Try going to Finder->Preferences and click the Sidebar icon, then recheck the box in front of "Removable media"--if it actually is mounted it should reappear in the Sidebar. You might also try the Finder's "Go" menu item and in the Recent Folders section see if you spot the name of the dmg, if you do select it and its window should reappear, again, this will happen if it has indeed mounted.
