Create sub folders in Notes in iOS

cant do it and an earlier Apple techie suggested going to the iCloud website to do it there. But if all you have is ios then you can’t do it there either. Even when you ask for the desktop site.

So so much for cutting the cord to laptops!

Hey there, mrbobbo,

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I understand that you'd like to create folders in Notes on your iOS device. I'd be happy to help!

You can use the following steps from Use Notes on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support to get help creating a new folder in Notes, as well as to get information on how to move notes between folders. While you can set up folders in notes, you cannot set up a folder within a folder, regardless of how you're accessing Notes (i.e. on an iOS device or a computer/website).

Organize your notes

To keep your notes organized, you can sort your notes by date created, date modified, or alphabetically. You can also store notes in different folders.

Sort your Notes list:

  1. Go to Settings > Notes.
  2. Tap Sort Notes By.
  3. Choose how you want to sort your notes.

Create a new folder:

  1. If you're in the Notes list, Tap User uploaded file to see your Folders list.
  2. In the Folders list, tap New Folder.
  3. Choose where you want to add the folder to.
  4. Name your folder, then tap Save.

Move a note to a different folder:

  1. If you're in a note, tap User uploaded file to see your Notes list.
  2. In the Notes list, tap Edit.
  3. Tap the notes that you want to move.
  4. Tap Move To, then select the folder you want to move them to.

Have a great day!
