iMessage shows 3 unread messages, but all messages have been opened.
Only on my iPad, I am running iOS 11.4 I only Keep my messages for 30 days but I dont want to delete the, until I find the culprit.

After reviewing your post, it sounds like you have some messages that are marked as unread, but you have read them all. One thing you can do is to while in the Messages app, tap Edit in the top left corner. There will be an option in the bottom left that says Read All. If you tap that all the messages should then be marked as read.
