iMessage notification

My iMessage app shows there are two unread messages however when I open the app, there’s no new messages.

I have tried deleting all the messages in the app, swiping up to shut down the app, going into my setting and turning I message off then on again, restarting my ipad as well as force restarting my ipad. nothing has gotten rid of the 2 notification. Can someone suggest what I should try next, please?
