Is there a way to tell if a photo that has already been deleted was previously sent by text message?

If so, what are all of the methods? Do they all involve downloading an app or doing it through the computer?

Also, would the date, time and other photos it was sent with also show?

Thanks in advance

Are you asking if you can tell if the photo was sent to you? Or if you sent it to someone else? If you want to see what pictures you've exchanges with someone, go to Messages, find the conversation you have with that person, tap on the little "i" in a circle at the upper right corner. You should then see all the pictures you've exchanged with that person. I believe they remain even if you've deleted them from you photos.

I know that if you download an app and/or go through the computer, that it's possible to find deleted text messages and pictures through either iCloud or iTunes. If this is so, would the date, time and other photos it was sent along with, also show?

🙂

To the best of my knowledge, there are no apps that can tell you when a picture was deleted from your phone. There are certainly not going to be any that tell you if the picture was sent from the phone in Messages and when.

If the picture was sent using MMS (green) rather than iMessage (blue), you might be able to see that on the itemized phone bill (usually available on the carrier's website), but all that would tell you is that some picture was sent, not which one.

I would as this "someone that knows about iPhones" for more details.

Settings>Messages>Message History will tell you how long the phone is set to keep messages. The phone can be set to delete them as quickly as 30 days. If the picture were taken in the Messages app, it would never have appeared in Photos unless the person using the phone saved it to photos.

If this is a legal issue, I would suggest contacting an attorney.

Best of luck.

You can't retreive a deleted text message from an iPhone. If the message is in a back up made from the iPhone, the iPhone can be restored to that back up (overwriting everything currently on the phone). There are some applications that say they can extract messages from the back up file but I've no experience with them..

Note also that, if someone switches to iCloud syncing of Messages (available with iOS 11.4), messages are no longer part of the back up file at all.

So, short answer, no, it's not possible to do what you want, Sorry.

Ok, let's see if I can explain it better. You think you know the picture was sent on May 1st. You know that a back up was made on May 2. So, in theory, if you restore the phone from the May 2 back up, you'll get the picture back. But, you'll also overwrite everything that was put on the phone between May 2 and today. And, if the phones owner deleted the picture from Messages in that one day period between when they sent it and when the back up was made, it wouldn't be part of the back up. But, there would be know way to tell that's what happened. You'd never know if you were wrong about the picture being sent or if it had been deleted.

I'm asking about the sending phone. It's not mine. It's complicated. 😉 It' too much to explain.

Is there any way possible to find this out WITHOUT downloading an app, going through a computer?

Thanks again. I know this sounds complicated, but without tellig the entire story, it is very difficult to describe what I'm asking and why 🙂

Thank you. This answer was very helpful.

The only part is, I'm not asking f an app can tell you when a photo was deleted. Mostly, only if there was a way (not an app necessarily) to tell if a photo, that is no longer in the phone, has been sent by text. But you did answer that part.

My asking about the app was only because the only way I can figure out how this can be done is to retrieve deleted text messages - but as far as I can tell, that can only be done through a computer and/or by downloading an app. Even that is a stretch though, and is not what is being described to me.

Thank you very much for your fast reply. No legal matters, just social 😝
