Apple Mobile Device Driver still missing after iTunes uninstall/reinstall

My computer (PC running Windows 7) stopped recognizing my mobile devices (iphone, ipod and ipad). The mobile device driver was nowhere to be found. I followed the discussion lines and carefully uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes. Apple Mobile Support is in the program list, but still no mobile device driver (I checked every device list). How can I download the device driver in a safe way? And why didn't the reinstall work? I've waited for hours for a technician to become available for a chat, to no avail.
