Where is launchpad.app in High Sierra?

Since the last update, launchpad showed up in my dock as a question mark. Just as when other icons were messed up, I dragged the launchpad icon off the dock expecting to find it in the Applications folder. It turns out it isn't in the Applications folder nor does a full search of the hard drive find it.

But pressing F4 still works.

I'm guessing that there is no longer a launchpad.app but how do I fix this. I like having launchpad in the dock and would like to get it back. A thorough search on the Internet has provided no clues.

Thanks,

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2012), iOS 11.4

Launchpad should be in your Applications folder.

If you cannot find it on your Mac then you can try running the 10.13.5 Combo Update. (But if you can access it from the functions key, it would seem to still be there)

Download macOS High Sierra 10.13.5 Combo Update

The Combo Update is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update, so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before. It should preserve all your data and settings but that said you should always have a backup.

Launchpad is an integral part of macOS and as such cannot be deleted, so it must be there somewhere, especially as F4 is still working! Try re-indexing Spotlight in order to find it:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201716

Or get "Find Any File" from the App Store. I use this great, easy to use little app as a useful addition to Spotlight, and it doesn't need an index like Spotlight does to perform searches. And it´s free... 🙂

If this doesn't help do please do what macjack has suggested and download and install the High Sierra 10.13.5 combo update. I did this on Sunday and it cleared up a few little issues! Hope this helps you! Regards, Ian.

Thanks to both macjack and Ian. It was using the combo update that did the trick.

FAF is no longer free but it looked useful so I tried it. It didn't find launchpad.app so I downloaded and installed the combo update which did work.

(I'm not unhappy about paying for FAF as it does look like something I'll be able to use.)

Thanks again for both your replies.

You're most welcome! And I´m very sorry 😊 about the wrong info that FAF is free...I´ve had it for so long I´d forgotten! I would recommend paying for it, it´s not much (where I live it costs €8,99) and personally I wouldn't want to be without it! Particularly useful is the ability to display search results in 3 different view modes, like in a Finder window. Regards, Ian.
