Voice distortion on IPhone 7 phone calls

iPhone 7 plus - 11.3 While on a Phone call, my phone will randomly have a distorted section of the phone conversation. The person on the other line will sound robotic or their voice will slow drastically or speed up like a chipmunk. Other times they say I sound like I am underwater. This happens for about 15 seconds and then the call quality returns to normal. This has been happening about 2 times a day now.

Can this be fixed? I am not moving locations when this happens and it is not always when I call from a certain location.

Did you get resolution on this? I am having the hardest time getting Apple to agree that there is a bug in the 11.3+ software. This appears to have started happening after 11.3 came out. It only affects bluetooth connected devices and Apple really isn't taking ownership of the issue. I was told today that regardless if there are posts on the discussions, unless people actually go into the store to report it, there is no record of it and the engineering team will never address it.

SO IF YOU HAVE THIS ISSUE, GO TO THE STORE TO REPORT IT, or CALL APPLE SUPPORT to make sure a trouble ticket is logged.

This is getting ridiculous

I don't think you understand what is happening. My girlfriend will can me. Ten to fifteen seconds into the conversation she sounds like a chipmunk recording skipping. She says I sound like a low-pitched demon during these episodes. The episode lasts for 3 or four seconds. We have narrowed down the problem to her 7 and eliminated my SE. Another similar thread is:

I'm on with Apple Support right now. They are claiming that this is a carrier bandwidth issue tied to some level of data compression. Their first suggestion was for me to call my carrier and ask for a "Carrier Configuration Server Side Profile Reset". Their 2nd suggestion is to give me a fully refirbed 7plus and just can't understand the logic there.

Keep in mind the Warrant of Apple and the remedy for breach:

  1. repair the Apple Product using new or previously used parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability,
  2. ii) replace the Apple Product with the same model (or with your consent a product that has similar functionality) formed from new and/or previously used parts that are equivalent to new in performance and reliability, or
  3. (iii) exchange the Apple Product for a refund of your purchase price.

Option iii is looking the best and migrating to a new level phone. FYI: This is not a listed bug in the release of 12.

I have experienced the same issue, and not only during calls, but even when playing music. The music will suddenly become distorted for several seconds, the return to normal. I’ve also experienced “skipping” or an echo. I wish Apple would acknowledge this as a legitimate issue which needs to be addressed.

Iphone 7plus 11.4.1: I have had this problem as well. At first I thought it was the phone, so I swapped phones with my wife (same model: Iphone 7plus) who was not having the problem until my sim was in it. Since we swapped back, she does not have the problem. So then I went to Verizon and asked for a new SIM card and the problem still happens.

I can only see three things left; some sort of network glitch with Verizon(service ticket in play), a malfunctioning app, or an account issue with Verizon as my account was originally and SE and I upgraded phones without updating my account. I don't think it is the last as I used the 7plus for over a year without this problem. It definitely seems to be connected with an apple upgrade and the Verizon network. If I don't get this resolved, I don't see how I can remain loyal to Apple or Verizon. Verizon tells me to hang-on to see if it is resolved with IOS12 but that seems like someone is passing the blame to the non-present party.

I’ve been experiencing this ever since I did a restore. I restored because I lost all microphone function. The microphones became functional after the restore, but now I have conversations in chipmunk. Super grateful I can use my phone as a phone again. Just wish that the quality was there, these aren’t cheap devices from what I hear :)

Hi all. I too have the problem with voices on calls sounding briefly garbled. It started about 4 months ago with my iPhone 7 Plus. It occurred during every call, no matter if I was using Bluetooth or not. Also, my music periodically would cut out. After four unsuccessful attempts to correct the problem through Apple Support, Apple requested I go into the local store. I did and again they could not find the problem, but wonderfully gave me a new phone, I was so excited that the problem would be resolved. It was....for 10 days. Today the problem started again (both on speaker phone and with iPods). I’ll be calling Apple tomorrow to let them know. This is so frustrating, especially since I use my phone for business.
