When I switch spaces on my macbook (not on an external monitor) the menu bar goes away. I know how to force the menu bar to show when different spaces are on different monitors, but how can I make the menu bar show all the time?

I figured it out. Create a new desktop and drag the apps you want to each desktop. Otherwise it was treating each app in the spaces as full screen.

Is mission control set up so that Displays have separate spaces (each monitor displays separately), or not checked such that windows expand across both displays?
The latter mode does not support menu bar on both displays.
This is unchecked, and the menu bar shows on my main screen, but when I switch to another space, the menu bar goes away.
