How to convert iPhoto Slideshow .m4v to .mp4

I have created a curated album in iPhoto from a selection of 1,000 photos I took on vacation.

I want to export these to play from a thumb drive on a TV.

When I export a Slideshow it created an .m4v file.

Due to DRM restrictions I discovered I don't have permission to play my own .m4v!
I can't even play it on the laptop that produced the .m4v.
I don't have the ability to convert the .m4v to .mp4 which would play.

Surely I can't be the first person to experience this conundrum? What is the solution?

My easiest solution is to buy an appleTV for the TV, and wirelessly display my content from iPhoto to the TV.

Before battling with iPhoto SlideShow, I had a preferred alternative.

Is there a method to take my album of 160 curated images with random file names and export them into a sequence of jpegs with increasing numbers. E.g. 001.jpg, 002.jpg This would enable exporting them to a new folder, viewing as a list, and manually clicking through the sequence without a fixed slide show method.
