Moving desktop from iCloud back to iMac

I am unable to move my desktop from iCloud back to my iMac. The suggested previous answer does not work. The answer given was:

"Finder/Preferences/Sidebar and make sure iCloud Drive is checked. Then go to iCloud Drive in the Finder/Sidebar and drag the files from there to your Desktop. You can also try going to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select LibraryMobile Documents. Copy them from there."

There is no 'Show Library Folder' option on the View options list. Therefore, no way to make the library folder visible. The first approach suggested does not work, either. I cannot drag files from iCloud back to the desktop on the iMac. A circle with a slash appears when I try that. So, HOW DO I GET MY DESKTOP BACK TO MY iMAC? Help!

Follow the instructions below. Pay close attention to the last paragraph which I have emphasized:

Turn off Desktop and Documents

When you turn off Desktop & Documents Folders, your files stay in iCloud Drive and a new Desktop and Documents folder is created on your Mac in the home folder. You can move files from iCloud Drive to your Mac as you need them, or select all of your files and drag them to the place you want to keep them.

  1. From your Mac, go to Apple menu User uploaded file > System Preferences > iCloud.
  2. Next to iCloud Drive, click Options.
  3. Deselect Desktop & Documents Folders.
  4. Click Done.

If you turn off iCloud Drive or sign out of iCloud, you have the option to keep a local copy of your files that are in iCloud Drive. Whether you decide to keep a local copy or not, a new Desktop and Documents folder is created in your home folder. If you choose to keep a local copy, your files in iCloud Drive are copied to a folder called iCloud Drive (Archive) in your home folder. Then you have the option to move any files that were in your iCloud Desktop and Documents, back to your new local Desktop and Documents.
