It could be a software issue,especially if you recently updated iOS in the last few days.

You can try removing the SIM card and holding the home button and power button simultaneously to restart the phone,then reinsert the SIM card. Also,you can reset network settings and then all settings if it fails. If this too fails,you can backup your phone and restore your iPhone and reinstall ios(google is your best friend here).

And the obvious...your SIM card may be bad. If you have a friend or family member,you can insert their SIM card into your phone and see if it works or not before trying the major troubleshooting. It’s really easy.
