Airpods animation and charging questions....

Have had my AirPods for a few months now, and am having a couple of things happening I can't explain. Sometimes the AirPods don't charge in a fully charged case. Have attached a screen capture of my animation showing low AirPods status in a charged case, and the AirPods were in the case overnight.

The other question is, what would prevent the animation from showing up? About half the time, I open the case, the AirPods connect to my phone (iPhone X), but no animation...

Any ideas on these to things? Thanks in advance...

Hello TomB01,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it seems you are having issues with your AirPods not showing as charged on your iPhone, even after leaving them overnight in the charging case. It also seems that you don't always see the on-screen setup for your AirPods. To help with these issues, please follow these steps, and then contact Apple for further help if your issue still isn't resolved.

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth and tap the icon next to your AirPods.1 Then tap Forget This Device.
  2. Put your AirPods in the case and close the lid. Wait 15 seconds, then open the lid.
  3. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case until you see the status light flash amber a few times, then flash white.
  4. Place your AirPods close to your device. Follow the steps on your iOS device's screen.
  1. Make sure that the Lightning to USB cable is firmly plugged into the charging case and USB power adapter. Then make sure the power adapter is correctly plugged into a power outlet.
  2. Make sure your AirPods are properly placed in the charging case and close the lid.
  3. Charge your AirPods and case for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Open the case lid with your AirPods inside and hold your case close to your iOS device. Wait a few seconds to see a charging icon User uploaded file next to the battery icon while your AirPods are connected to power.

If you still can’t charge your AirPods, contact Apple Support.

Thanks for the suggestions, jdo. Did all those things. Chatted with Apple Support earlier today, and have an appointment scheduled on Monday to take them in. Other weirdness happening with them, one of the AirPods seems to be not charging in the case consistently.... Overnight connected to power, but in the AM case and left AirPod charged, right AirPod dead. Has happened multiple times, now, so time for service. Here's a screenshot of the animation, which did finally come up after multiple tries:
