Photos Library on NTFS drive or WiFi drive

I understand from a previous post that a Photos library should not work when it is on an NTFS drive even with Paragon.

And sure enough it does not but when I connect the drive via a BroadBand hub it works fine. Slow but fine.

If it works over WiFi why does it not work directly via USB on mac?

Due to the size of my Photos library I cannot have it on my mac so it resides on a USB drive. I find the usb connection the weak link and the disk disconnects occasionally causing problems as it is not ejected properly.

My ideal would be a WiFi connected drive that is fast but so far I have not been able to achieve this goal. The NTFS experiment is the closest I have got but is is painfully slow.

So why does it work via a hub but not directly?

What other options are there for storing a Photos library remotely but not having to be tied to a USB port?

I look forward to any ideas.

Thank you, Steve

It is not safe with a network connection either.

The way Photo has been designed you can either use a locally mounted external drive or iCloud Photo Library. If you are storing the Photos Library on an unsupported drive, outside the specifications by Apple, you are risking a library corruption and data loss. See this link:

Ideas -- simple

Follow the rules of choose a program other than Photos - if you do not have your library p=on a proper volume it will not work correctly and you will create a mess - Where is it safe to store a Photos Library? Requirements for the external drive

What you are doing will not work (and you are posting here because you have proven that it does not work) - adn the answer is trivial - either use Photos correctly or use different software that does what you want

If you want to risk your photos go ahead but there is no safe solution to your problem which you are causing by not following the rules

ThunderBolt other direct connection as documented in the above article - there is no safe way to use a network or incorrectly formatted volume for the Photos library
