How to optimize Safari browser?-- Hotmail and MSN Messenger

I had this problem when I first got my Mac but then it was resolved quickly when I updated my software. However after running some updates it seems like my Hotmail is down once again. It lets me log in (put in my email and password) but it doesn't go to my inbox instead it gives an error. My MSN Messenger has stopped working as well. Is anyone else experiencing these problems? How do I fix it? I was told that once I optimize my Safari browser, things should be back to normal. How do it do that? Please help. Thanks!
