I have a iMessage group of a zillion family members (all iPhone users). Some cannot go to a family reunion. I want to duplicate the group then cull people from it. I want to keep the original group intact. I do NOT want to create a new group from scratch. Please help.

Thanks, but I think you did not read my post. I need two groups, one with everyone and a new group with "everyone minus a few". How do you duplicate a group, as in "copy" group members and create a new group from it?
Ok, so as far as you know it is not possible to duplicate a group and then edit that second group? Problem is I have 25 people and it is easier to remove five people from a group than to add 20 to a new group. I need to keep the original group intact, I will use both groups.
I think I will remove people from the group, rename it (on my wife's phone) and send it out. Thereby, keeping the original group intact on my phone. My wife will get the original group back with the next text from that group.

Even if you could copy it you cannot remove someone from a mixed device group. I did not misread your post. You will need to just start adding names and create a new group.
Ok that didn't work. It only renamed the group original group when I did it the way (post above). I will just have to create a group form scratch.
